Scooby Dooby Done

And not so painful after all.

We caved in. We'd refused to take Looby Loo to see Scooby Doo 2 at the cinema, mainly because we thought she'd be terrified (and we didn't fancy another Piglet episode). But yesterday's sorrowful off-colour little sprite needed cheering up, so we booked two tickets (on-line, last night) and went this morning. Despite it being half term and probably because there were multiple screens showing HP3, there were less than two dozen in the cinema. We settled in with our drinks and popcorn (the ravens very firmly holding onto the tub of popcorn to prevent further Piglet incidents) and watched the ads.

We have to confess that we enjoyed it. It was a sequel to a movie that derived from a cartoon series, so we didn't expect greatness. But it repeated the elements that made the first movie work. The soundtrack was tremendous (I'll have to go back and really listen to the first movie's soundtrack now to see if it's as good, tho' the comparison will be marred by one being in the cinema and one on a TV). The effects, apart from the unconvincing dog, were tremendous. The characters worked better than the first movie, partly because they'd somehow been allowed to move on, mature a little even: we even found ourselves warming to Freddy Prinz, Jr. Alicia Silverstone was cute (and crucially out-cuted BuffyDaphne). It's true the mystery wasn't very mysterious (but were they ever in SD-land?): could anyone, ever believe a character played by Seth Green was a villain?

We have a theory that the worlds of Scooby Doo and Buffy are destined to not so much collide as gently slide over one another and merge. It had to be, from the point where the Buffy crew likened themselves to the Scooby Gang. The next sign of this will be the addition of a third actor from the Buffyverse in the third Scooby Doo movie--and we're sure ther will be a third. Just who, and in what role, is not quite so clear.

Oh, and there was no Scrappy.
