Cat Quote

"As Zoe turned away, a cat on the roof over head slunk down the roof slates. A thin coating of cats moved all over London, some in mid-air leaping, others licking their feet in doorways, others hunched over bowls, eating. Some of them lay on their sides, cold, on the pavement."

Geoff Ryman, The Child Garden

Pesky Birds, eh?!

From the Informer (one of the Guardian's daily emailed digests) :

"A hand-reared raven with royal connections stunned its owner when it
told him to "shut up".

Zeus, whose father is one of the Queen's famous flock at the Tower of
London, suddenly started speaking when he was six months old.

Now the bird, which should be the jewel in bird of prey exhibitor
Richard Cooper's crown, has become the thorn in his side by mimicking
family and friends."
