From The Northerner:
A reader of the Hexham Courant with an admirable concern for the correct (and incorrect) use of the apostrophe writes a sad letter to the editor:That's just delicious, isn't it?
"A sign outside the Falcon Inn, Prudhoe, in very large letters, proclaims 'Wedding's Partie's Birthday's Engagment's We Do Them All'.
"The notice is 50 yards from a sign saying 'Welcome To Northumberland'. What will visitors think of us?"

Mar. 27th, 2003 10:08 pm... we've finally bumped into Mark Steel. As ever, apposite. We could quote, but the cumulative nature of the effect would be lost. Suck it and see: 'And here's Tommy Franks, the children's entertainer...'.
The punch line's the killer (if you pardon the violence of the words in the context of too much killing).
