From The Northerner:
A reader of the Hexham Courant with an admirable concern for the correct (and incorrect) use of the apostrophe writes a sad letter to the editor:
"A sign outside the Falcon Inn, Prudhoe, in very large letters, proclaims 'Wedding's Partie's Birthday's Engagment's We Do Them All'.
"The notice is 50 yards from a sign saying 'Welcome To Northumberland'. What will visitors think of us?"
That's just delicious, isn't it?

... we've finally bumped into Mark Steel. As ever, apposite. We could quote, but the cumulative nature of the effect would be lost. Suck it and see: 'And here's Tommy Franks, the children's entertainer...'.

The punch line's the killer (if you pardon the violence of the words in the context of too much killing).
