Brief summary of the week
Oct. 29th, 2004 12:07 amSunday, drove down to Dorset in foul driving rain, storms of leaves blowing across the roads. Didn't stop anywhere picturesque.
Monday, Montacute House and gardens. Very pretty, lots of lovely textiles: an entire gallery of samplers. The gardens were fine too, if a little windy.
Tuesday, Pilsdon Pen with earthworks, long barrows, pillow barrows and a medieval rabbit warren. Then Forde Abbey's gardens. Sun and little wind all day.
Wednesday, wind and Avebury, having driven past Stonehenge (nah, no-one needs us to link to that) and Silbury Hill, for less time than we'd've liked. Then home in driving rain and wind and traffic jams.
Highly educational. Looby Loo has a colouring book of megalithic sites and we've got a history of the excavations at Avebury.
Grandparents probably consider themselves well and truly visited and need a long rest to recuperate.
Tomorrow Billy Smart's circus. Never been to a circus before: if we're not back tomorrow night, we've run off with the sad-looking clown!
