Wibble

I was going to sit down and write up bits of the weekend over at [livejournal.com profile] pianino, but shopping took longer than anticipated. Now, I just want to weep.

I heard--actually I didn't consciously do that, more I reacted instinctively to a noise that I didn't consciously register--a car knock down a cyclist, turned back to see the result, and hung on (uselessly: since someone had already called an ambulance when I rang 999 [an aside: with the prevalence of mobile phones, do many incidents now get double reported?]) until the ambulance and police arrived. There was little point in my staying around, since I'd seen nothing useful. The girl (17) had a friend with her and the driver of the car was still there and another couple stopped to help too so quite a crowd. It could have been worse: the driver was turning out of a car park, and she landed in the main road but in the bus lane only, so not in the path of other traffic. She has a very sore leg, at the least, and I'd hope in future she will wear a helmet.

Bearing in mind I've lived beside a busy main road for thirteen plus years, it's amazing this is the first accident I've encountered close up.

All I keep thinking is "she's someone's little girl".
