The jar of semi-set locally-produced honey I bought at the medieval fair last autumn ran out halfway across my second slice of toast. Time to try the Zambian Organic Forest Honey from Tropical Forest (it's the Soil Association one below the pictures of humming birds). What a contrast. The local honey has really quite a strong flavour and is reasonably meaty--until you taste the Zambian stuff. It's got a denser texture, almost waxy, and a flavour that's s-o-o-o smoky. It's not as insipidly sugary as most blended honeys. It's like eating a sweet bonfire made of the most delightful flavoursome leaves.

Real Foods were selling half-kilo jars of manuka honey at 2 for 1 (or 1 at half-price) and I swithered over it for a while - because even half-price, manuka honey isn't cheap - and then went for it.

God it's good.
