... to do this for ages.

This is my home-sprouted avocado:

And in close up:

It did have leaves--three big green ones,--until the cat[2] ate them. May edit the images later to recreate the effect.

Have pre-emptively started with another avocado.

Also planted a "spur" from a root of ginger that looked like it might be viable.

[1] Spent a happy (more than) ten minutes setting up the Lycos space to put those pictures in. Do not go to the site. It's intended as a dump, and will therefore look like one!

[2] This is the cat that once ate a fennel plant, enjoys licking the outside of loaves of bread, and had had a go at my pepper seedlings too.
