It's a perfectly valid opinion to have, tho' I'd have to argue with the notion of "unpleasantly personal things" since it's actually a pretty pleasant activity most of the time.
It's amazing how discreet one can be. I certainly sat round at sf cons with infant plugged in and I'm not certain anyone was the wiser. But yeah there's an embarrassment factor (on both sides--accidental observers and the folk doing it) that's as much to do with the hidden nature of feeding infants as anything else. I'd've certainly felt uncomfortable if I made anyone upset. On the other hand, a wailing famished baby's far more of an aural nuisance than happily suckling one.
