If the conclusion of this article (Will Hutton in The Observer) turned out to be true?
I'm not hopeful, and the pain until we get there...

From The Guardian, Ian McEwan:
Many of us believe the EU remains the most extraordinary, ambitious, liberal political alliance in recorded history. It has overseen unprecedented peace and prosperity for 70 years. It is the dream trading bloc, to which we still have privileged access. Against the historical background of centuries of bloodshed, it is a heroic project, the closest embodiment on the planet of an open, free-thinking, tolerant polity forged between nations once at war. At the same time, it has preserved national differences – take a drive from Slovenia to Lisbon or Lübeck. At the human and cultural level, the EU is far richer, more diverse and benignly complex than the continental US. Where it needs reform, where it needs to evolve, we should be there to help turn that heavy wheel.

So after tanking in the immediate aftermath (now that's a phrase--clichhggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggxðððwesw222222222edssssssssssssssssssssssssfr--I've never knowingly typed before)++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Try again! Interruption courtesy of Mr Socks (who can get eths out of a keyboard) possibly ended.

So after tanking in the immediate aftermath (now that's a phrase--cliché?--I've never knowingly typed before) the FTSE closed higher at the end of the week than it did at the beginning (6,021.09 to 6,138.69 [OMG: the volume of trading on Friday: 7,755,260,354] source: markets.ft.com/research//Tearsheets/PriceHistoryPopup?symbol=FTSE:FSI). Can't see it lasting. A long, possibly slow, decline after that dead Cam bounce.

So, we've gathered around the radio and listened to Mr Chamberlain's announcement and now we wait.
Whoops! Not quite. But it does feel a little like the phony war.
So maybe we should spend our time of respite hanging out our passports on the EU line.

I apologised to my 17-year old for the kicking her future's just been given. I extend that apology to all the young people who didn't get to vote and have to live longest with the consequences.

As for the old sods who voted for out... I'm not surprised, only disappointed.
