Domino responded well to Royal Canin urinary formula food, and is now on a maintainance diet of James Wellbeloved (with cranberry). I've not actually got pH measurements but he's clearly much more comfortable...

The really puzzling thing is that he's not unwell: the month on Royal canin has caused him to put on weight and th change the pH from 7 to 8. So now it's Hill's. He's round, bright-eyed, with beautiful fur. He's even stopped peeing in corners. The vet can't find anything wrong beyond the alkilinity and (decreasing) traces of blood in his urine.

I'll bear the James Wellbeloved in mind--cranberry is helpful in human cases.
