What the ravens did for their birthday(s)
Nov. 17th, 2008 12:42 pmWe didn't (unless it's to be found in books, music, food and wine) discover the answer to the ultimate question on Friday. Probably a good thing: "Quoth the raven: 'Forty-two' " doesn't have the same portentous sound to it.
So, opened Looby Loo's present over breakfast: a handbag mirror with a pewter back with "R" (for ravens ;-) on the reverse. It needs a proper case, which may become my first embroidery project for some long while.
Was ambushed by my dad with a rendition of Happy Birthday over the phone.
M got back from the US just in time to drive across town to get Looby Loo from school. Finally opened presents and cards. Then we went out to a memorial concert for a fellow of my college who was also a student at M's college in the latter's Wren-designed chapel. It included the most amazing performance of "A Lark Ascending" as a duet for violin and organ. There doesn't seem to be a recording of this arrangement which is a shame: the organ is in its element taking the various orchestral parts and the violin really does float wonderfully over the top.
Then dinner at 22. Yum.
All very civilized.
