We didn't (unless it's to be found in books, music, food and wine) discover the answer to the ultimate question on Friday. Probably a good thing: "Quoth the raven: 'Forty-two' " doesn't have the same portentous sound to it.

So, opened Looby Loo's present over breakfast: a handbag mirror with a pewter back with "R" (for ravens ;-) on the reverse. It needs a proper case, which may become my first embroidery project for some long while.

Was ambushed by my dad with a rendition of Happy Birthday over the phone.

M got back from the US just in time to drive across town to get Looby Loo from school. Finally opened presents and cards. Then we went out to a memorial concert for a fellow of my college who was also a student at M's college in the latter's Wren-designed chapel. It included the most amazing performance of "A Lark Ascending" as a duet for violin and organ. There doesn't seem to be a recording of this arrangement which is a shame: the organ is in its element taking the various orchestral parts and the violin really does float wonderfully over the top.

Then dinner at 22. Yum.

All very civilized.

Happy belated birthday ... will give you birthday hug or whatever when I see you (which should really be soon given we live walking distance away from each other!) ... but I'd be lousy company right at the moment as I seem to have spent the last few days proving you can survive (barely) having coughed up 99% of your lungs ... ouch ... still coughing, going back to bed now ... have a great year!

You had to wait until 10pm for your dinner? ;-)

We've not been to 22 for some time, what with it now being a fairly lengthy taxi ride away from us, and the White Pheasant being a short stroll. Is it still much the same under the new management?
