Randomness

Brain in a not-joined-up state. So a few passing comments:

  • Bread machine is functioning well in 58-minute fast bake mode, so I'm going to experiment with adding extras and varying flour using this (also leads me to believe that it's more likely the machine than the flour: but why some programmes and not others?).
  • Headline in the BBC News Online e-mail--Kirk warning over identity cards--doesn't involve starship captain, but does have the odd good comment anyway.
  • Alonso. 'Nuff said?

Wow, that's fast. I've had two failed loaves in two, BTW... too much water, somehow.

Go, the Kirk!

We found the fast bake on our machine worked better, but I don't think it's that fast (certainly we don't use superfast yeast in sachets).
(We only ever use it in "put stuff in in the evening, set for fresh bread next morning" mode, so the speed doesn't actually matter.)

(a) use the previous day's loaf? Probably too crunchy.
(b) set it to run about 2 or 3 am so as to be cool enough to slice by breakfast?

Glad you've found a cycle on which it'll work!
Probably some plastic gizmo somewhere has thrown a cog.
