What Colour?

If you were to imagine yourself as Eve in the prelapsarian Garden of Eden being wooed by the serpent, what colour should the apple be?

[Ooh, if we were a paid-up member, we could make this into a poll. Nah.]

Just a piece of whimsy. We'd never thought about the specifics of the apple before. Red like the poisoned half of Snow White's apple? We're trying desperately to remember the colour of the apple in any depiction of the Fall. And failing.

And the size? Shiny or matt? Has to be perfect, we suppose. And not a windfall.

Presumably it depends on the varieties around at the time any particular instance were created.

In most of the images I recall, the fruit was an apple, and that apple was either bright red or greenish-yellow with red highlights - and in either case, plump, juicy, obviously ripe, and freshly plucked from the Tree.
