Did you like Goodnight Mister Tom? I preferred Back Home. Now looking up on LibraryThing to check the title, I find Michelle Magorian's written more ... bother ... 2009 is going to be the Year of Catching Up, I think.

I didn't hugely enjoy it, but it was interesting. LL had a copy and I'd missed several episodes of the Radio 7 reading and wanted to catch up.

Reduction in to-be-read pile: negligible.. Isn't it a corollary to the Peter Principle that to read piles expand to fill the room available (and then a bit). It should be size of pile - books read + books purchased = size of pile but it doesn't seem to work in practice.

You are, of course, entirely correct. I reckon they're breeding. I wonder what would happen if I set up a carefully planned selective programme. Library eugenics.
