2010 projects

or, the not quite ny resolutions post
Nope. No completely new NY resolutions for me. Last year's--not buying myself any books--spectacularly backfired: the unread pile is 25% larger, in spite of my buying no books for me. I'm continuing it anyway, OU/Manchester books excepted.
I'm also extending the no-buy rule to yarn: I will only purchase yarn relating to a queued project if I have none in the stash that is appropriate. Naturally, this doesn't stop me adding a project to the queue, but it does stop me buying odd balls (or several) just 'cos they're pretty and I might find a use for them sometime.
Within the possibly-attainable-this-year portion of the queued projects, there are two types of knit (or possibly, she types nervously, crochet): presents for other folk (for birthdays earlier in the year or Xmas if late) plus patterns adapted from Mrs Beeton's Book of Needlework ('cos there's nothing like knitting strange Victorian items). The only likely addition to that is to satisfy my need for a good pair of warm gloves or mittens in something non-aggravating to eczema so I don't always have frozen fingers from wearing my fingerless mits in sub-zero conditions.
I'm going to blog boringly about these at the very least in the monthly summary postings.
(I'm thinking up some writing goals, again as specific, hopefully achievable projects, in a similar manner.)

Date: 2010-01-03 12:06 am (UTC)Stash diets. Oh nooooooo!
I am on a bit of a stash diet. Except for lovely fine linen for shirts and chemises, (I have actually run out, and there is Regency frocking for a weekend game in my future) and Mulberry Silks for embroidery inspiration.
But I resisted burnt orange and rust striped 100% silk taffeta for a fiver a metre yesterday, which I am very proud about! As my normal fabric purchase is enough for a period frock (so ten metres) the lady in the shop was quite disappointed.

Date: 2010-01-03 11:18 pm (UTC)Stash diets are sometimes necessary--before I die underneath a collapsing mass of sock yarn and fat quarters for putative patchwork quilts, for instance. Today I successfully negotiated Robert Sayles and bought the single ball of black 4-ply to continue with the (distinctly non-Victorian) TARDIS socks and avoided accidentally acquiring additional purchases from the several bins of reduced yarn. (We went and ogled sewing machines instead.)
Blogging of Beetonalia will definitely happen.
