Well Mr Muscle seems to have done his bit. Now to rewash the half-load that was in situ when the flood waters rose. At least, we can sit here and type garbage whilst we cock our ears in the direction of the laundry. There are a couple of phone calls we need to make, but we daren't. Just asking for the pipes to clog again.
So, does this mean that it'll get a showing on a big screen near us? (It looked intriguing from the link to the trailer that was it sbisson posted a while back?) Or that Michael Moore's prize means that Bowling for Columbine will be reshown (we missed it at the Arts) somewhere soon?
[btw, am we the only people to find the inconsistency in the format of the names of LJ-specific tags infuriating: lj-cut with hyphen and lj user without? I know actually there is a sort of pattern, no hyphen for tags that don't require a matching end tag, hyphens in those that come in pairs. So there may be some techie reason to do this. However, as a poor higgorant end user (or should we put a hyphen in there too?), we find it hard to remember.]
Just realised, we went outside to check on the drains not only sans thick coat, hat, scarf and gloves, but wearing a fairly lightweight skirt and a strappy sleeveless t-shirt. We didn't freeze either.

Date: 2003-03-26 09:35 pm (UTC)2) You can rent a DVD player from Blockbuster (or at least you used to be able to) for a night or two. Means joining Blockbuster but that's free (just need credit card and a couple of utility bills for proof of residence)
3) Get a portable DVD/CD/MP3 player so you can have music on the go and still watch DVDs when at home (you can even get ones that connect to the PC and have a CD-R mechanism so you can use them to burn your own MP3s from the work jukebox onto CDs that you can listen to over and over and over and ... oh, that *would* be bad! <grin>)
4) Get a cheap DVD player from somewhere like Asda (under 50 pounds for multiregion), so that the other people that roost with the ravens can watch DVDs when they want to
5) Come visit

Date: 2003-03-27 05:57 am (UTC)LJ tags
Date: 2003-03-25 09:28 am (UTC)The basic rule is that the first word after the "<" is the name of the tag, it can contain hyphens, but it is a single word, everything after that word but before the ">" are arguements/parameters/modifiers.
So <td> and <td colspan=2> are both TD tags, but one has an extra parameter, and in this case it is a parameter that takes a value.
For LJ tags, they are all <lj-something> where the something changes depending on what that particular tag is meant to do (e.g. lj-cut) EXCEPT there is a special one, a tag that is simply called LJ (<lj>) which takes as a parameter the name of a user (<lj user="the_magician">)
It was done that way since it was expected to be the most commonly used tag and it's quicker to type, but it does cause errors as people forget and try to use <lj-user="magician"> which doesn't actually make sense as the name of an HTML tag can't have parameters, and so you've got a tag that includes all the characters up to and including the double quotes after magician and which doesn't make sense to livejournal or to your browser.
It has nothing to do with end tags as far as I can tell.
Hope this helps.
