We're hoping it's one of the tadpoles from the spring that's made it to full size. We had lots of mating activity and lots of spawn--and then nothing. Except the plant-life growing to make it harder to see what was going on.
(And there were several "plops" when I last went to check, so maybe we've a few of them.)
We do have frogs in the garden, but no pond (and I don't think they use the swimming pool). My mother's pond started draining because of a leak a few months ago, and is now completely empty. I heard today that the neighbours found there were newts in it, but managed to rescue them and take them to another (natural) pond elsewhere.
