If, as I felt, British Summertime is Chris Priest lite, then Dr Who: Father's Day is Paul Cornell lite-r still. Oh, I see. The author's committed a semi-rehash.

...but is the Toygraph too? One more for the Who files--in which The Doctor meets his nemesis, Michael Grade.

We can see we need a suitable icon for this strand. Some obsessions never die.

In the Torygraph's Arts section, a piece on "Chistopher Eccleston ... hoping to bring a melancholy edge to" Dr Who. As if he didn't have one already. Well, we thought so. (But then we always felt that the Doctor fell into the brooding Byronic hero slot quite neatly.)

The most interesting thing to come up in the article is: "Eccleston said that he had been approached to play Dr Who in a film version eight years ago." The one that starred Paul McGann, presumably. (What has happened to Paul McGann, btw? We don't recall seeing him on TV in ages.) So Eccleston had the sense to turn that down: it wasn't, if we remember aright, much of an offering.

Oh well, we're greatly anticipating the new episodes. Saturday evenings have never been the same.
