(For loyal readers, no, not that one. That's coming up for nine years ago.)

A tractor has crumpled most of the side of our car. It would have been more exciting and bizarre if it had been one of the huge cruisers on the back of lorries, but they always travel along the other side of the dual carriageway (regardless of direction of travel) because there's more space and less street furniture and trees.

No, it was merely a huge tractor. With a driver who thought the bus lane looked wider than it was.

I'm assuming the car (which was second-hand (and only a Skoda) when we got it with the insurance from the crash) is a financial write off. I await the M's instructions as to what to do next. He is, inevitably, elsewhere.

I could go and take pictures.

We're fine (M being in New Delhi, us in the house, and all).

The driver was driving slowly and carefully in something with as much bulk and armour as a tank, so he's OK--if mortified.

All the bad things that happen to cars we own, happen whilst they're parked outside the house. (Yes, I do sometimes wonder about relocation.)

Indeed! I felt rather sorry for him. I suspect he's a junior member of a farming family and he's going to get a bollocking from a more senior member.

Take pictures, if you haven't already, and call the insurers. I'm sure they're used to people ringing up and saying "What do I do now?"

Insurers 'phoned, but nothing realistic to do until M gets back. And no hurry.

I'll take pictures Sunday morning, nice and early, when there's no traffic. It's not as if the car's going anywhere when its sole driver's abroad.

Oh dear! It's an unusual car loss reason to develop a pattern of, but nine years isn't a bad stint. In fact it's about how long my Toledo lasted me before giving up the ghost. Sadly you're almost certainly right about the Skoda being a write-off even if it's only category C.
