Mouse! In the house! Sitting on the shelf in the bathroom.
Gave it the big spider treatment: trapped it in a beaker with a sheet of cardboard (OK, a knitting magazine) slipped underneath. The bottom of the garden is probably not far enough away, but it was dark and damp and I didn't fancy venturing further.
It had the most immense lo-o-o-ng tail. And big eyes.
The cat was asleep downstairs. He's not currently allowed in the bathroom due to the hole in the wall where the old loo's been taken out. It's not quite direct access to the underside of the thatch, but pretty damn close. We've heard scritchings from that side if the house a couple of times. So not completely surprised.

Date: 2021-11-09 09:15 am (UTC)For me, the river's five minutes walk away, but footbridges are a good deal further. I did think about walking down the road an up the byway that crosses the A14, but it was dark and wet and I was on my way to bed (pyjamas down the garden is one thing; down the public road, quite another).
Carpenter's due to come and look at the remedial works; new loo due early December.
