Wandering out of Tescos. we were accosted (politely) by a market researcher. Since it was raining and it "would only take five minutes" (they all say that, don't they!), we didn't attempt to run away (is this why market researchers stop people on the way out when escape is hindered by trolleys and bags?). (We quite enjoy market researcher baiting--we don't have a standard pattern of shopping or consumption.) This time the first question wanted to identify just how much of a dinosaur we were: did we take photographs using a non-digital camera?

"Yes." (Actually our 35mm camera is newer and significantly better quality than the digital camera we own. We often carry both.)

The market researcher looked pleased, maybe even surprised, from which we deduce that no-one uses film any more.

Then came the crunch: had we used Tesco's film processing services?

"Yup."

Her face fell. She needed Tesco virgins and we'd already succumbed (only once: we prefer Boots just across the road).

Less than a minute and we were off into the rain.

hee hee...

i just love messing with those folks myself. good on 'ya, as our antipodean friends would say.

last time i was so accosted, i was on my way out of a hideous, enormous mall in the Dallas area, and i delighted in telling the market researcher that i'd gone in there looking for exactly one item, couldn't find it there, hate all malls, patronize them as rarely as possible, and was planning to go to a small family-owned business back here in Bryan to find what i was looking for. pf.
