Feline Relationships

Okay, we've known for a while that our relationship with Little was a tad strange. Not the small cat putting us to bed routine: that was sweet. More the small cat rolling flirtatiously on the floor before "presenting" herself, bum up, tail to one side If we stroke her at this point she gives us a biff with her claws.. So our little lady cat thinks we're a tomcat.

We can even cope with the fact that when we're ill and feverish and almost certainly sweaty, she plays nurse and keeps checking up on us.

Last night, collapsed in front of the TV, we had both cats snuggled up with us, a very rare occurrence. We had our feet up and Big curled up against our ankles. When he woke up, he licked our toes, nipped the top of out foot and them straddled our leg meaningfully. We thought only dogs did that. Conclusion, our big cat thinks we're a compliant lady cat. (It has to be added that he'll try to mate with any white or pale-coloured soft toys left in his path too.)

We were confused. Not so confused we didn't give him a tap on the nose.

O-kay... I presume that Big is an It, and Little will be an It as soon as the time is right? I knew a lovely neutered ex-tom who sprayed all his life, probably because he wasn't neutered young enough. Amazingly, his now-spayed grandmother also sprays...

It's nice to have little fluffy nurses, though, isn't it :-)

Big was a he and is now an It. Little was a she and is now an It. The Blue Cross don't let you have adults as anything other than Its, do they? They're siblings (makes his attempts at mounting her very dodgy) and round about eight or nine. We adopted them when they were a year or so old and they were Its then, but I'm not sure for how long: if they'd been "done" when they reached the Blue Cross, they'd been stuck there long enough that Little's fur could have grown back. The BC were pretty desperate to get rid of them: they needed to live inside as Big's deaf (yup, we have white cats) and they wanted them placing together. The problem was Little, who hid, and had a "flat face" that people thought was ugly. Whilst she doesn't have the longest of snouts, she really is quite lovely. And she's always been mine and puts me to bed every night. Having overcome her jealousy a little, she puts Looby Loo to bed too--and stays for bedtime stories.
