Horns of Dilemma

Knitting yarn arrived yesterday. So the possibility of finishing our jumper off with a substitute for the substitute has finally arrived. We've tried a couple of swatches to get the correct needle size (hard when the ravens knit fast and loose!). But, we've got half of the blackwork pattern transferred to a suitable piece of linen (the central grand piano) and have the small chinese motifs and background geometric grid ready to add too. We've even dug out a spare frame. The latter makes the embroidery less portable. We're actually more in a knitty mood (dangerous concept that after Knitty's underwear edition) than for counted-thread work. Which do we continue with?
Those horns: a size 8 needle and the smallest tapestry needle we can find.
