(Can one play theremin with crossed fingers? Or crossed claws, for that matter?)

I'm having rather gruesome visions of borrowing body parts, not necessarily attached to their owners, until the perfect fingers/hand/arm can be constructed.

I'm hoping to get some amusement from getting the cats to help. It's such a shame that there's only one surviving terpsitone. So much more exciting than just walking along the keyboard.

A terpsitone's easy enough to build--it's just a standard theremin with the cap sensitivity for the antennas tweaked. Trouble was, no one was ever able to really play one with any musicality.

What make is the theremin you've turned up?

Moog Etherwave. It's one of the specially signed ones. Not that that concerns me one bit: it won't make it sound better. But it's significantly cheaper at the minute than the UK list price let alone shipping the thing over from the States or Germany.

It does mean I don't get to build my own tho'--don't often find excuses for a bit of soldering!

Nice--the Etherwave is lovely. I built one recently for a friend, and they've got a nice tone and are really, really stable once you get them all tuned up. I've built about twenty of the Paia ones, which are brilliant in terms of control features and sound very good, but need constant fidgeting and tweaking to keep them at null tone. They're all a marked improvement over the ones I was building before decent kits appeared on the market--I used to have to draw out my PCBs with resist pens and hand-wind all the coils, which was a mighty pain in the ass.

hi, I'm a random person. I looked up my semi famous uncle in the interests section. His name is Geoffrey Hill. I wondered if any of you people who put down geoffrey hill on your interests list meant the same Geoffrey Hill I did.

Well, I meant the English poet and academic Geoffrey Hill. Which one do you mean? Google throws up several.

So difficult these lists of interests. For example, I've always wondered whether all the folk who list "purple prose" mean, as I do, the fairly obscure Belgian band or just florid writing. The lack of capitalisation doesn't help. No, I've never bothered to ask, tho'.

We are. I think I've fallen asleep in some of his lectures (more a reflection on my lack of sleep than his lecturing) when he was at Cambridge (UK). Ouch, that dates me!
