So, we buy the Persil tablets, remember (doesn't often happen) to cut out and keep the tokens, help acquire more messy art stuff, requiring more washing, and hence the buying of more Persil tablets, remembering to cut out and keep.... It's all at Free arts and crafts materials for schools. Or am we too cynical?
Actually, due to our lack of "correct" shopping habits, we're completely useless parents. We don't buy many processed foods, and what we do we attempt to get from organic brands. We're not, however, going to be shamed into buying bags of Walkers crisps or whatever the latest scheme is to buy books for schools. Though the alternative of finding a political party to vote for that might genuinely advocate more taxation to provide better public services is getting less and less likely.

Date: 2002-10-06 11:16 am (UTC)Nope. Enough friends around here are collecting for their own offspring. The rest, I've a horrible feeling, either don't buy the stuff or would (fearing a scathing attack from a self-righteous pairs of ravens) not dare mention it. Heck, some friends even have allotments and surplus organic produce.
And we keep trying to enlighten folk to the wonders of the organic fruit and veg. box scheme. One success. We persevere.
Sure, small scale greenery and opting out of the "buy bad stuff, wreck the globe, but get a little payback for your kids" malarkey won't save the planet, but it definitely tastes better.
