Sad to say, due to arriving at only basic levels of visual literacy relatively late in life (the light dawned, so to speak, during Brian Talbot's spot at whichever Eastercon he was at (was he a goh? was it Sou-Wester? round about then, anyway) when the Bad Rad came out), we've heard of, but never read, Cerebus. [Hah, there's nowt like identifying cultural lacunae!]
Actually, ignorance of Cerebus doesn't indicate a lack of interest in graphic novels/comics in general: we stuck loyally with Look and Learn well beyond most of its contents being of interest (i.e. when you're actually reading unabridged the novels they were summarising as cartoon strips and you're happy picking up New Scientist and the Economist, you've probably outgrown Look and Learn) simply because we liked The Trigan Empire But, post stint as English student, words took over, except for the links between Medieval art and literature or course.
