It's mentioned in Horseplay (EU stubbornness over equine passports) as the word the EU insists on using for horses, ponies and donkeys. Presumably, if the eurocrats are sticking to the OED's definition ("equid [ad. mod.L. equidæ, f. equus horse.] A member of the family Equidæ, which embraces horses, asses, mules, zebras, and certain extinct ungulates with undivided hoofs."), that'll be zebra, too.

Shades of "'As your minkey a licence?" if you get the pantherish (pink) drift.

E-quids, however: we'll have a (virtual) pony of those--used, low denominations only (now how the heck to achieve those criteria online).
