Serendipity
Feb. 22nd, 2010 02:49 pmLast week, a last-minute short break to Oxford meant I got to catch the Steampunk exhibition at the Museum of the History of Science before it closed at the weekend. Good stuff, tho' a tad too much leather (not something I often complain about) and far too little well-polished mahogany. There was also a variation in quality, something to do with one-off pieces of work occasionally looking more like prototypes than finished articles. Art Donovan's light fittings were gorgeous: they just need the requisite 100-odd years of use and polishing to acquire the correct patina.
There were not enough textiles, almost none. When we got home and I started catching up with the most-of-half-term-backlog of emails and blog entries, I found in Trendcentral: Spoonflower and its current contest for steampunk themed fabrics with a science contest coming up soon. So, they're out there.
