But only if you're a cat.

Large box of hard-to-find Senior catfood arrived. Little happy. (Actually Little is stretched out in front of the stove completely zonked, but she'll be well fed for weeks.)

Cat fountain also arrived. Socks was drinking from it even before we switched on the flow. He ran away briefly and then came back to it. Ozzie queued politely. Then wimped out. But he was ever so close to drinking from it. And he is the only cat not to drink from the tap in the bathroom sink.

Cardboard boxes also here. Ozzie over the moon.

The main problem with cat fountains is keeping them clean and making sure the filters are changed regularly. Our cats all loved ours, but eventually we went back to bowls because we a dreadfully lazy and finding the right filters was a chore.

Anent the hard water.

We used to use very cheap supermarket bottled water.

Has there been any sort of scientific research into whether cats and other bowl-or-bottle-drinking pets fare better on distilled water, soft water or hard water? Eg hard water might make them get kidney problems sooner if that's the thing to which they are prone. On the other paw/wing, hard water might provide valuable trace minerals (depending somewhat upon region) which aid them with their feathers or claws or something.
