Progress, Slow
May. 20th, 2003 02:12 pmWandered off to allotment. Not rotovated. So we started digging. Then we started picking out the bindweed* roots. We once did this across most of our back garden--the allotment's bigger than that--for a couple of hours. We've cleared to a spade's depth (we really ought to go at least 18 inches deep to get those roots) and a spade's width and about half the width of the plot. That is, a grain of sand. We're throwing the roots onto the compost heap, which isn't recommended, simply because the compost heap's overgrown with the stuff too.
Still, it's a peculiarly restful occupation, even if the soil's claggy. (If anyone wants to construct a golem, we've got the raw materials!)
It's too windy today, with intermittent rain, so we're doing the washing.
* We once speculated that the entire earth was a ball of bindweed roots.
