Progress

Having taken one look at the Lemmings-like interface for the social aspects of the eastercon (while noting that the teeny-even-on-a-big screen video links were at the top of the screen where my varifocals "do" distance and hence everyone I "met" was going to be a blur) and having failed to find the email that allowed me to set up a login to access programme via a saner route [no I don't want to spend Easter wandering around a pixellated space station trying to find a programme item]) I decided it was all too much like work.
Takes a deep breath, ends rant....
I'll just have to embroider instead. Progress has been made:
Embroidered Jewelry Box Lid (part worked) (part 2)
I attempted a green-man type design in one of the gaps which proved too large and not sufficiently densely filled to work. Hard to reduced in size without many stitiches into the "filled" parts of the fabric. I don't enjoy half stitches on Aida.
So, the new plan is a castle, but split to accommodate the central motif.

A very long time ago, the transparent lid of my jewelry box was broken (don't ask how long ago as it's embarassing) and I'd planned on replacing the perspex with an embroidered panel. I'm now in the process of creating the panel. Progress, so far:

Embroidered Jewelry Box Lid (part worked, reverse)

And the front:

The central design is from Exquisite Miniatures in Cross Stitch by Brenda Keyes. Very slightly tweaked (due to different fabric plus stitcher's error!). Also multi-colouring the blackwork design.
The initials are from Cross Stitch Borders and Motifs by Jana Hauschild Lindberg. I may have missed a trick with these, and perhaps should have changed the crosses into a grid to mirror the outer portions of the leaves.
Next up, half repeats of the central motif at each end. I'm still mulling over whether to use single strands and no gold to allow the central section to stand out.

We didn't really have anywhere for it in the old house. Here, there's a hearth. Somewhere I have pictures of cats long gone "helping" with it.

This popped up in my twitter feed today: Cross stitch mural by Ana Martins. Just so cool.
