DAB receivers have hit the under £50 mark--so I bought one in Tesco yesterday.
It's neat once you've mastered the controls. The reception's fine, better in FM than any of our other radios (bar the digital feed to the TV) and far clearer--for speech--in DAB than anything we have. It's light, portable, works on mains, batteries (standard or rechargeable) or it's own internally rechargeable ones.
Of course, what I really want is their DAB/MP3 player. I guess it'll be another gadget that's incompatible with our stone-age operating system.
For various reasons (mainly the need to record the last episode of Dr Who and all the Lions tour), M bought a VCR on Saturday. (Seems a tad retro after acquiring the DVD player at Christmas.) So acquiring from smallphoenix a vikings video that originally came from
la_marquise_de_ is good. Otherwise there'll only be rugby to watch on it.*
Also acquired DVDs of Dune, Secrets & Lies and Leaving Las Vegas.
I'm feeling very grateful., especially for the viking stuff. LL's headmaster has been telling them all about longboat museums in Denmark. So she's switched from demanding a return trip to Eurodisney (over my dead body) to wanting to see viking ships. Must remember to thank the head for this.
* I could retrieve other videos from the loft, but we've finally acquired this year's batch (clutch?) of starlings in the roof and I'm loath to disturb them.
