...would be fine were it not for the usual slew of feuilles mortes and suchlike.

Morning's usual activities of catching up from pleasant weekend away interrupted by phonecalls to book club and couriers to complain about the missing parcel. Found the note through the door on Sunday evening indicating a parcel had been left on the doorstep (anyone who's ever seen the ravens' doorstep would see how stupid that is) on Friday evening (no time indicated, but it had to be after 5.10 pm as that's when we left for points north). At best that means the parcel would have spent a very wet weekend on our front door step and have therefore been ruined. At worst, and in reality, it means there would be no sign of the parcel. Since Reality/White Arrow didn't leave a local contact number (indeed no number at all) on their delivery card, and no number was forthcoming in the Yellow Pages or Thomson's or through a bit of googling, we rang Readers' Union to talk to them first and get a number for the couriers. After a long wait and deafening muzak we got the payment deleted due to non-receipt but no chance of repeating the order (adds that to the shopping list) and a phone number. Rang the number and got the sound of a real old-fashioned «ring ring» before the more usual «prrr-prrr» as our call was switched elsewhere. We complained. The complaint will, we were told, be passed on to the depot.

The todo list has just reached item 25. Were we trying to write a novel this month? That never made it onto the list.
