The sms to lj posting that failed read:
Ceiling collapses;Which was entirely true. The day before eastercon, the ravens got up and headed into the bathroom. From the airing cupboard came a rustling. We thought the usual range of oaths and imprecations and assumed that a bird had finally found the hole in the wall (left when a pipe was removed during the refit of the water cylinder) and was now stuck in the airing cupboard. We opened the door to the airing cupboard. A crash, a rumble, and a faceful of plaster dust greeted us--as part of the ceiling fell.
Chicken Licken et al head
For a last resort.
"The house is falling down!" we squawked whilst shutting the door on the problem.
Well, it wasn't, despite the cracks (the airing cupboard's against the end wall of the terrace). We "borrowed" a builder from the extension that our next-door-but-four-or-five neighbours are building and he said it was a brick from where that chimney stack had been that had worked loose. We tidied up, thereby ending the Hoover's long life, filled the bath with the contents of the airing cupboard (towels and spare bedding still in the queue to be washed), and left for Blackpool. Must get that hole fixed this week.
We know there's a flaw in our catching up process. When we can type comfortably, we'll do several days in one.
