Should I have asked for black marble?

Got a call from the builders. They've been having a wee bit of trouble finding sills for the new windows off the shelf. So, they're going to have them cut specially--by the local (literally up the road from us) monumental masons. Now, we've always made a habit of buying locally--the kitchen was done by people on East Road; the bathroom, laminate flooring by folk on our road--but I'd not planned on using the funeral directors... yet.

I somehow feel I've wasted an opportunity here and we should really go for something Gothic. Or inscribed. Or shiny marble. I think I'll settle for explaining that the window sills are offcuts from gravestones.

Well, it's a linked pair of businesses, sharing the same site. So the monumental masons also do fireplaces and the funeral directors do what it says on the casket (actually that's an unfairly British joke, since I'd guess that you don't necessarily get the Ronseal "does what it says on the tin" adverts in the US), but presumably it makes ordering the headstone easier (and getting it to the cemetary is easy too as that's just a little further along the road: our road has all the world on it--cemetary, airport...).

That's amusing; sensible, I suppose, but still ... and it sounds quite the busy street. No wonder you're sometimes bothered by the noise.
