Thongs

The ravens have finally cracked. They had decided to stay silent on the topic, to avoid bringing up such a (to them, at least) delicate issue. But no longer. Enough is enough!

Why do thong-backed knickers exist? And why do people (I'd guess the ravens here mean, mainly, women) wear them?

I confess. I tried. It was uncomfortable. I did not persevere.

That does not mean that I object, in any way whatsoever, to other people choosing to inflict that kind of discomfort on themselves. I guess thongs can look good. But, as a means of avoiding that apparently dreadful sartorial faux pas of visible panty line, they seem to be far worse a solution than the problem itself. They fail on both the discomfort count and due to displacing the problem rather than eliminating it. I ask you, rhetorically maybe, which is worse, the potential disturbance to an otherwise smooth posterior due to the knickers beneath or the completely-visible-above-the-level-of-the-waistline elastic of the thong? I'd go for the vpl any time.

But the ravens kept quiet with only these objections to go on.

Of course, some people make it worse for themselves. Following a couple of women, younger than the ravens, out of the local shopping centre, I was amazed by the outlining effect that a black thong can have around buttocks covered by a tight white skirt, unfortunately one of sufficiently summery fabric as to be a little too transparent. With the visible thong line above the waistline. In duplicate. Granted, if only one of the pair (pair here referring to the peeps rather than the butts!) had been suffering from the affliction, I'd've put it down to end-of-the-week-and-this-is-all-that's-left-in-the-underwear-drawer syndrome. But both of them in a similar plight seemed to point to planning. Still, since this was a number of weeks ago, the ravens evidently managed to remain silent on the matter.

What changed the ravens' determination to keep mum? The final straw? Read on, if you dare.

But now, through the post comes a catalogue the raven rather likes. Kiddy clothes, useful kiddy clobber, and maternity gear. New this Autumn issue, maternity briefs with thong backs. I know that it's a struggle to feel as if you look good when pregnant (well, I felt like that, anyway, and it was a help having the PVC maternity trousers to wear (purchased from self-same catalogue, so I should've known) as a confidence booster when I felt particularly grotty), but thongs. As the bump gets bigger, does the discomfort elsewhere...? Incroyable. The ravens would like to draw a veil at this point over the entire subject....

We're so glad we finally got that off our collective chests.

My baby sister's been wearing thongs for years. And no, she's never worn them so the waistband shows. That's generally a "fashion" statement.

When I asked her, "aren't those things uncomfortable?," her reply gave me pause. She told me, she'd rather wear something that's designed to be a thong, than a regular pair of panties / knickers that's volunteering to be a thong.

And she's right - a decent thong really is more comfortable than a pair of panties that's got the creeps.
