More Poetry
Sep. 3rd, 2002 11:33 amIt's an important anniversary (if you love Wordsworth[1]): It's 200 years to the day since William Wordsworth penned his sonnet Composed upon Westminster Bridge. Worth listening, if you can, since for once they've got a reader with an appropriate accent. The Ian Macmillan "update" doesn't hold a candle to the original.
Of course, I'm immediately caused to think of the other important "version", if you can call it that, "A Transport of Delight" by Flanders and Swan.

[1] I don't love Wordsworth. There are finer examples of Cumbrian writing.
[2] When in doubt, poetry? Actually I think the original Rule 1, "When in doubt--WASH!", probably applies too. (Paul Gallico[3], "Jennie", chapter 5 (another cat quote, I'm afraid!))
[3] Another first-class fencer to add to the list of fencers famous for other activities. Step forward Mr Bruce Dickinson....
