We should've known, when the Vet first made his comment about white animals being trickier and extra trouble, that we had something odd on our hands beyond the obvious defect of Big(gle) being deaf. It was probably round about the time that Little had to be knocked out to have her tear ducts drained (rabbits, which also have a similar problem, can remain conscious for this procedure, but not, cats; said Vet had remarked on seeing a similar problem with inturning eyelids on a white dog, too; it's not painful for Little, just sticky and unsightly) whilst her shoulder was x-rayed in the hope of finding some good reason, or even bad reason, for why she was insisting that she was a three-legged cat that the Vet told us this "fact". (For the leg problem we found no cause. After a few months, Little decided that going round on three legs was no longer interesting and went back to using all four. One shoulder does, however, occasionally look a little stiff when she walks.)

It's true that they are very odd animals at times. When they scratch, they lick. Not clean. Just lick at thin air, eyes closed, apparently very happy. We refer to this as scratch-licking (oddly enough). Today, the ravens, whilst scratching Little's back, hit the correct speed, rhythm, or whatever, to hook the reflex. We scratched; she licked. It's taken years to purr-fect that.

Biggle seems to be heading for a vegetarian diet: fennel leaves, sage leaves, avocado leaves. He also licks bread crusts.

It's a good thing folk don't judge levels of eccentricity by the behaviours of one's pets.
